Starting as a backyard party of National Geographic photographer Michael "Nick" Nichols, this informal gathering of a few photo enthusiasts grew into one of the biggest photographic festivals in the United States. Nanga Parbat (Urdu: نانگا پربت = "Naked Mountain") is the one of the highest mountains on Earth. Also known as the "Killer Mountain," Nanga Parbat was one of the deadliest of the eight-thousand footers for climbers in the first half of the twentieth century, and is still an extremely serious climb.* For Michael Beek, explorer, mountain guide, paraglider, author and photographer, Nanga Parbat is his personal "Mountain of Destiny." We asked him about his passion for uncharted far reaches in the Karakoram, and why he's using FotoMagico for his presentations.
