Built-in iSight (iMac G5)
Sunday, December 25, 2005 - Permalink
On friday, our new iMac G5 with built-in iSight arrived. Following up several user reports, we have quickly tested our apps. Here are some findings:
- iStopMotion: Works fine with the built-in iSight. Strangely, if you connect an external iSight in addition to the built-in, you can not select it as input source. We are looking into that.
- iVeZeen: Also works, but you can not adjust any parameters. This is because the built-in iSight is not a FireWire IIDC device like the external iSight but a USB 2.0 device. We'll have to see if we can work out how to control it.
- $MS$: Works as well.
So, pretty good record. We will iron out the remain glitches soon, I hope.
BTW, when I compare the video image from the external iSight with the new built-in iSight, I must say that the built-in iSight seems to have a better picture. It can deal better with low light conditions. Maybe this is not surprising as the vendor is given as "Micron" by System Profiler, which seems to have good sensor technology.

FotoMagico 1.5b8 Public Beta
Sunday, December 25, 2005 - Permalink
FotoMagico 1.5 enters its public beta phase. You can download it and use it with your regular license key. If you want to try it out, you can also use the regular demo license with it.
What's new in FotoMagico 1.5b8?
One word: transitions. We added a number high quality, beautiful transitions. When you see then, you'll understand why it took some time to implement. Give them a spin and see if you can figure out where we got the inspiration for them.
Another new thing is the support for a second screen. If you use a computer with two displays connected, you can now choose on which one the slideshow will run.
Also much requested the capability to make a set of slides match the duration of a song.
Great new stuff. We want you to really pound this version, see if you can break it. Our plan is to have a stable version ready for the Macworld.
How to download FotoMagico 1.5b8...
Use your existing license key, or get a demo license key here, or buy a license.

iGlasses

iGlasses is a cool software by ecamm network that allows you to fiddle with the iSight parameters like you can with iVeZeen but in many applications, most notably in iChat. Version 1.2 is now compatible with iStopMotion and iVeZeen.

Josh Burker: Attack on the Lander
Sunday, December 18, 2005 - Permalink
Josh Burker purchased a copy of iStopMotion for use with his Technology Club at the Lakeridge Elementary school. He made brickfilm "Attack on the Lander" to familiarize himself with the software. I like the way the fire that comes out of the engines when the lander lifts of is created. Edited in iMovie. Also check out the QTVRs which are quite nice. The Lakeridge Elementary Tech Club also has its own homepage.
