Fryeburg Academy, a day and boarding school in Maine, is an independent preparatory school that prides itself on providing a supportive yet challenging environment for their students. The Academy believes its strong school community fosters learning and growth in all of their students, and its comprehensive co-curriculum cultivates generations of students who graduate well prepared for the future.

A recent addition to the school’s curriculum to help further the Academy’s mission is Filmmaking and Broadcast – a course that requires its students to create content for, report, shoot and edit their own news show. After weeks of hard work and behind-the-scenes efforts – made easier through the class’s use of BoinxTV – FATV is broadcast online to the news team’s fellow classmates and faculty.

We could not be doing the news show at all without BoinxTV,” said Mike Dana, a former motion picture cinematographer and creator/teacher of Filmmaking and Broadcast at Fryeburg. “We use one of our editing station iMacs as a digital TV studio and installed the BoinxTV software. There is no way I could have started a News Media class with the expense of a traditional hardware based studio.”

In line with Fryeburg’s mission of offering students a well-rounded curriculum that will prepare them for the real world, the FATV news team is run totally by students – eight in total this year – under the guidance of Dana. They are responsible for all of the work that goes into creating a news segment and have learned the ins and outs of video production because of it. “The kids love it,” said Mike Dana.

Lead anchor and sports expert Forrest Emery said, “It’s definitely a lot of fun. I’ve learned a lot about the profession that I don’t think you would otherwise – stuff you wouldn’t think about normally if you were just watching the news at home. There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes.”

FATV exposes Fryeburg students to experiences they would not otherwise have, partly made possible through BoinxTV. “This would have been really tough to pull off 10 or 15 years ago. The rules haven’t changed; there’s still a certain structure and a certain way of making a plan, but the kids can now use the technology on their own,” Dana said. “With a little guidance, they’re able to tell stories. With Boinx TV (which is a software-based studio in a box, basically), a computer and a green screen on the wall, we can make news shows.”

Of his students, Dana says he’s seen them grow immeasurably just over the past year because of their involvement in the class. “There is always a difficult period getting students comfortable with doing interviews and asking questions of their peers and teachers, but they always get over that and gain a lot of confidence as they do more shows and segments,” he said. “Wait till you see what our students here at Fryeburg are able to accomplish with hard work, creativity, and BoinxTV software for the Mac.”

…No need to wait though! Check out FATV’s news shows here now.

BoinxTV recently teamed up with MarketClub - an investment company dedicated to helping its clients become better traders - to produce a live broadcast for its audience. This new stockmarket livestreaming show has already garnered much attention, capturing 130,00 viewer hours in its first show alone, drastically expanding MarketClub's outreach. "Our company is in the investment business and so we wanted to create a very professional looking show that we could broadcast live each Thursday at 7 PM Eastern Time," says Adam Hewison. co-founder of MarketClub. "Our first show lasted 50 minutes and was a huge success with our viewers. Since launching MarketClub TV and thanks to the visual nature of the Internet, our business has grown. With more and more users using fast connectivity, it really means that we are in the age of video and video marketing."

In MarketClub's search for the right tool to help them broadcast live on the Web, they came across BoinxTV and knew it would be perfect fit. "Not that we have BoinxTV set up with two cameras, actually three if you count the USB2VGA that functions as a screen grabber, we have what we consider to be the perfect set-up," says Adam. "As a long-time fan of Apple products, it was a major blessing finding Boinx TV as we did not want a PC solution for something so visual a medium as TV. What really impressed us about Boinx TV was the fact that they had just won the Apple Design Award (ADA) for 2009. Given the fact that Apple has time and time again set such high standards in the industry and the world, we recognized that this was no small feat. So with that ringing endorsement from Apple, we decided to go ahead and purchase the program and see what it was all about. Having been on the Internet since 1994, our company is well-versed in most Internet technologies. However, I have to say that when we fired up Boinx TV, I was amazed at how beautifully designed, powerful, and easy to use the software turned out to be."

To say the very least, MarketClub has been more than satisfied with BoinxTV's capabilities and workflow. "Not in my wildest dreams did I ever think I could have, essentially CNN capabilities, on a Mac laptop for so little money. It was quite extraordinary. The amount of control you have with Boinx TV is more than you expect. I think that's one of the really powerful things we like about their software." The company takes full advantage of all of BoinxTV's functionalities, from green screening, to layers, to lower thirds, and more. "As an investor, I only wish I had stock in Boinx because they write great, seamless software and I see a bright future ahead of them. I know this sounds like a paid endorsement, but the reality is I couldn't say enough good things about Boinx TV and their staff - in particular Bastian Wolfle. Bastian went out of his way to help us and has been incredibly helpful in so many other ways."

"So if you're thinking about broadcasting and want a professional piece of Mac compatible software that is worth every penny, but won't cost you your last dime, this is the product you are looking for," says Adam. Check out MarketClub's live show, powered by BoinxTV, every Thursday at 7 PM here. Read about more awesome use cases of BoinxTV here!

MIS Live is not your average news station. Located in a small classroom filled with Mac computers on the outskirts of Munich, the station is comprised of students from the Munich International School's Middle School — a co-ed institution dedicated to helping students achieve their greatest potential. For the team of MIS Live, that potential comes in the form of budding journalists and broadcasters, creating exciting and remarkably professional news show for their school community, with the help of a little program called BoinxTV.

Music: "Dandelion" by Adult Only

Students of the MIS Middle School, grades 5 to 8, are using their after school time in a unique way, thanks to a new after school program called TV News Station and a piece of software called BoinxTV. Gathering together facts, pictures, events, interviews, and information from around the MIS campus community, this group of talented and outgoing students write and edit scripts, cut movies and produce their own live TV news program via BoinxTV. Calling themselves, MIS Live, the students cover everything from class field trips, to sports, school gossip, and the latest tech gadgets on campus, and deliver the news straight to their peers in weekly broadcasts.

BoinxTV is live-video production software from Boinx Software, developer of cool and unique apps for the Mac platform. Acting like your own personal TV truck — minus the truck — BoinxTV combines live camera video, clips, photos, 3D graphics, lower thirds, audio, and more to create stunning broadcasts with a professional touch. Perfect for recording presentations, interviews, lectures, sporting events, concerts, and more, BoinxTV helps MIS Live piece together their school-wide broadcasts in no time. "BoinxTV is a piece of software that allows for the creativity of every child," says Pia Druggan, IT Integration Specialist, MIS Middle School. "The great thing about BoinxTV is that it gives the students the same look and feel of CNN or BBC. If you have a story to tell and it could look and feel like a news story, BoinxTV is the perfect platform to use."

The students of MIS Live not only learn the ins and outs of TV production and live broadcast software, but also the advantages of working as a team and the importance of relationship building. To make each MIS Live broadcast a success, the students must work together to complete their assignments and overcome the many hurdles of live TV. "The process of capturing the news video usually requires several tries and a dose of patience and good humor, as the students do everything from writing the scripts to directing the software," says Pia. "But in the end it's worth it to see the sense of pride and accomplishment on each of their faces once their broadcasts go live."

BoinxTV is used to record the "Daily G", a daily Internet show on one of the biggest gaming and entertainment websites in Germany.

"It's a fantastic product to create recordings fast and easy without any post-production", says Michael Schlieper, editor-in-chief of GIGA.DE. "We often get inquiries from our viewers about which tool we're working with. Apparently BoinxTV succeeds in bridging the gap between "high-gloss look" and ease-of-use."

The iPhoneDevCamp satelite event in Munich, hosted by Boinx Software and App Records, will be streamed live on Saturday, August 1st, beginning at 11am CEST.

We will use BoinxTV to capture the various video sources and mix a live video signal that is streamed out using uStream. Participation at the event was limited to 40 attendees but interest far exceeded this limit so the event's organisers decided to provide a live stream.

MLD (Metachromatic Leukodystrophie) is a very rare genetic disease. Since 1999, the MLD Foundation has organized and sponsored six MLD Family Conferences where parents and families could meet, support each other, learn about treatments and talk to researchers and doctors. All but the first conference was taped to share with those who could not attend. BoinxTV was used to record 15 hours of presentations at the MLD Family Conference March 2009 in Munich, Germany.
